Bridge tolls in Romania
While most toll payments in Romania are covered by the digital vignette (rovinieta), several major bridges across the Danube River require a separate bridge toll. These tolls are not included in the vignette and must be paid individually, either online or at the toll station before crossing. The bridge fees apply to all vehicle types, regardless of the vignette category, and are collected by the respective bridge authorities.
The separate toll bridges connect Romania with Bulgaria and key routes between important regions of the country. Below you’ll find an overview of the main bridges where additional tolls apply:
Calafat – Vidin Bridge
Located on routes DN56 and E79, this bridge forms an international connection between Calafat (Romania) and Vidin (Bulgaria). It serves as one of the main routes for freight transport and passenger traffic between Central Europe and the Balkans. The crossing features both a road and rail section, and the toll must be paid before entering the bridge. Payments can be made directly at the toll point or in advance via the official website.
Giurgiu – Ruse Bridge
Found on DN5, E70, and E85, this bridge links Giurgiu in southern Romania with Ruse in northern Bulgaria. Known as the “Friendship Bridge,” it is a vital part of the international route between Bucharest and Sofia. Drivers can pay the toll in cash or by card at the bridge, or online via the official platform. The crossing is busy year-round and serves both private travellers and heavy lorries heading towards Bulgaria, Greece, or Turkey.
Fetești – Cernavodă Bridge
Part of the A2 motorway and E81 route, this bridge connects Fetești and Cernavodă across the Danube. It is the main link between Bucharest and the Black Sea coast, used heavily by tourists heading to Constanța and the seaside resorts. The toll can be paid conveniently online via the official platform or through authorised petrol stations and mobile apps. Automatic number plate recognition is used to verify valid payments.
Giurgeni – Vadu Oii Bridge
Located on DN2A and E60, this bridge connects Giurgeni (Ialomița County) with Vadu Oii (Constanța County). It is an essential crossing for traffic between central Romania and the eastern coast, especially during summer months when tourism peaks. The toll is modest and can be paid either at the bridge or online through the official platform. The bridge plays a key role in linking agricultural and coastal trade routes.
